FaltyDL produces and plays music that has the unique ability to link a wide range of musical styles. By doing this he pleases people that like hip hop, techno or drum and bass. While his music is often categorized as dubstep or as future garage, his music draws from a wide range of styles ranging from hip hop to soul, jungle and electronica. Meet FaltyDL.

FaltyDL is the alias of Drew Lustman, who lives and works in New York City. After playing bass in a jazz band during high school, Lustman decided he wanted more control and began producing music himself, inspired by electronica. Nowadays he likes to listen to hip-hop and soul. This range of influences results in music that Planet Mu Records, the label where FaltyDL released his first album in 2009, describes as “a native New Yorker interpreting his love of British dance music from a unique angle”.

The former sushi chef debuted with the acclaimed album Love Is A Liability. After that he released several EPs, appeared on compilations and split EPs, and remixed among others The XX, Anthony “Shake” Shakir, and Mount Kimbie.

The mix that you can check out for yourself below is a short but energetic and fresh sounding mix that was done last year for ID Magazine. It includes music from Jam City, Hudson Mohawke and Arthur Russel. While listening, pay attention to the great shifting rhythms and see for yourself if you can distinguish all the previously mentioned influences! Enjoy the mix and be sure to keep an eye out for FaltyDL’s upcoming album on Planet Mu Records that is due on March 14th.
