For several months now I’ve been listening a lot to the music of the London-based producer Lone. Because there isn’t a single live-set of this great beatmaker on SoundCloud, I was happy to find the mix below on Mixcloud. Influenced by computer game soundtracks, 90s breakbeats and 2-step he represents an exciting new breed of producers. Meet Lone.

Lone was born as Matt Cutler and started out as a bedroom producer in Nottingham. After years of experimenting with producing, he gained a lot of attention in 2009 with his album Ecstasy & Friends that was released on Actress’ Werk Discs. The album featured Dilla-styled hip-hop beats, chopped synths and dreamy melodies.

After this first album several successful EPs followed, including the much applauded Once In A While. While the dreamy melodies stayed, the hip-hop beats were replaced with breakbeat, 1990s like 808 beats, aimed more at the dancefloor. Last year he set up his own label Magic Wire Recordings on which he released the great album Emerald Fantasy Tracks, that you should definitly check out if you’re into these sounds.

The mixtape below was done for the recent Bloc Festival and features several of his own tracks as well as house classics such as Adonis’ No Way Back. Be sure to check out Lone’s new EP on R&S Records and for now: Enjoy this mixtape!
