Mixtape Monday: SBTRKT

One of this year’s hottest UK bass acts is the London based SBTRKT (pronounce as subtract). While SBTRKT wasn’t known 18 months ago, his splendid productions, remixes and performances have catapulted him to the forefront of the UK’s dubstep scene in 2010. Time to check out the latest mix he shared with the world.

Atmittedly, SBTRKT only came on my radar this fall with his name popping on more and more websites and with great releases on labels like Modeselektor’s Monkeytown and Young Turks. Since then the name has been a synonym for great music and this mix that he did for Annie Nightingale is no exception.

Although the real name of the man behind the alter ego SBTRKT can easily be found if you do a quick search on the Internet, SBTRKT rather stays in anonymity and performs behind a tribal mask. In an interview with Resident Advisor earlier this year, he stated that the reason for this was to disconnect his persona from the music he makes as SBTRKT, so that people base their opinions on the music and not on the person behind it.

This music, which can be classified as mix of UK bass, garage and detroit techno, has been doing quite well in 2010. As one of the most exciting names of 2010 you therefore might want to check out his website that features most of his tracks.

While counting only 30 minutes, this mix features 17 highly energetic tracks, including some upcoming releases. You can find the tracklist on his SoundCloud page.
